If I order a tree print to frame myself, what size frames do you accommodate?
Artwork can be adapted to fit any standard frame size up to 16x20 inches. However, the size of your tree may determine the minimum artwork size. For example, seven generations won’t comfortably fit in an 11x14 layout, and Full Rings require at least 16x16. If you’re unsure of the best size, include your preference in your quote request, or we can discuss it during your consultation.
What if my family is non-traditional or contains divorces/multiple marriages/adoptions/half-siblings, etc.?
Every family is unique, and I'm happy to help you display yours exactly as you wish. Feel free to share what you have in mind in your quote request, or we can discuss it during a consultation.

Can I purchase research only, without buying tree artwork?
Yes. Research-only projects are common, and research works differently from artwork.
Artwork has a defined finish line, so it runs on a deposit up front and the balance when the piece is done. Research is open-ended by nature, since neither of us knows in advance what the records will show. So research runs in prepaid phases instead. That's true whether research stands on its own or fills gaps for a tree you're having designed.
Here is how a phase works. We agree on a specific objective, such as documenting three generations of one line. You prepay for that phase at $50 per hour, with the number of hours agreed before work begins. I do the work and send you a written report with sources and reasoning. Then we plan the next phase together, and you decide whether to continue.
A few things worth knowing:
You prepay each phase before work begins. There is no balance owed afterward.
If an objective takes fewer hours than authorized, the unused time carries to your next phase. If you're not continuing, it can be applied to an outstanding artwork balance or refunded.
If the hours run out before the objective is met, I stop and tell you where things stand, along with what I think finishing would take. You decide from there.
You are never committed past the phase in front of you.
Records that must be ordered, outside specialists, and any on-site archive visits are billed at cost and approved by you in advance.
A phase buys research time toward an objective, not a guaranteed answer. It’s the nature of genealogy that some lines cannot extend further, due to record loss or other limitations. I'll do my best to help you achieve your objectives, and be honest when the trail hits a brick wall rather than filling the gap with an unproven guess. We can discuss potential research projects in a consultation.
Can I request a background that is different from the design options in the gallery?
Yes. In addition to the backgrounds shown in my design gallery, I can source and incorporate other curated background options (such as stock imagery, photographic textures, or client-provided artwork) that align with the overall style of my work.
I do not create fully bespoke illustrations from conceptual briefs.
Requests for alternative backgrounds outside the gallery are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may incur a design adaptation fee. We can discuss your project specifics during your consultation.
What is the process and how long does the process take?
Every family tree project is unique, so timing can vary. Here’s a general idea of how things usually go:
I’ll send a project proposal within 3–5 business days of receiving a quote request or following a consultation.
After you approve the proposal, you'll submit a $100 deposit to start your artwork. Research is prepaid by the phase, whether it stands alone or fills gaps for a tree you're having designed.
Once your payment is received, I'll schedule your project based on my current bookings.
For projects that don’t require research: First draft of Direct Line Trees is usually shared within 1–2 weeks after your project is scheduled to begin. First draft of Custom Trees may require longer, depending on complexity.
If more time is needed, I'll keep you updated along the way.
You’ll review PDF proofs and provide feedback until the design feels right to you.
After you approve the final proof, I’ll send an invoice for the remaining balance within 2–3 business days.
Once final payment is received, production begins:
Digital files are typically delivered within 2–4 business days.
Print production usually starts within 4–7 business days.
Framing through my vendor usually takes about two weeks.
Shipping is via USPS, FedEx, or UPS, whichever offers the best rate.
If you're local to Cincinnati, you can also choose to pick up your artwork in person.
All turnaround times are estimates. Exact timing depends on project complexity and my current bookings. I’ll confirm a timeline with you before we begin.
